Every girl needs a…
· “Laugh with you until you cry” Friend – You know this girl. She is so funny that she could do standup comedy! She knows just what to say and when to say it to make you laugh until you cry!
· “Bake a cake for your Pity Party” Friend – Every once and awhile we all deserve to have a pity party, complete with cake, a sappy movie and a bottle of wine. This girlfriend will come over, with her head scarf on, ready to be a special guest at our pity party!
· “You better get up & dust yourself off” Friend – This is that chick who doesn’t want to hear your whining. This girlfriend is like a drill sergeant...she tells you that it isn’t that bad and makes you get up! And even though you don’t want to hear it, most of the time…you get up!
· “Ain’t scared to fight, I’ll knock ‘em out for you” Friend – If you are a scary cat like me, you definitely need this friend! All of us need someone who would take off their earrings, put on the vaseline and be ready to go for it. Now should they REALLY go for it? Maybe not…but you need to know that you got a girlfriend that will!
· “Pray for you” Friend – Now this isn’t the superficial praying friend. This is the one you KNOW is praying for you and is using scripture to cover you! She doesn’t play and is serious about the power of prayer!
· “Uninhibited” Friend – As a married woman, this girlfriend is SO vital for me! This girlfriend makes you come out of your box and encourages you to try new things and really ENJOY the married life.
· “That looks a hot mess” Friend – Have you ever seen someone out in public and said “she must not have no friends!”. All of us need someone that will tell us when our hair, clothes, shoes, and yes, even your purse are a mess! But she tells you discreetly and sincerely because she is not hating…she wants you on top of your game!
· “Girl you are way to fly for him/her/them/it” Friend – This is the one that reminds you that you are special and that you shouldn't worry about people who don’t appreciate you and don’t recognize your value.
· “Girl you know you are wrong” Friend – This is the one who is not afraid to tell you when you are the one tripping with your man, your family or other friends. She will check you and call you out on your stuff! And the reason you can listen to her is because you know she is real about her shortcomings as well. This is the friend who holds up the mirror so you can see what you need to do to get it together!
· “I believe in your dreams” Friend - This girlfriend will get more excited about your ideas, plans, and goals than you. She pushes you to walk in your destiny and purpose no matter what!
· “My girl at work” Friend – This friend is either a career mentor or just one of your closes friends at work. You would not be able to get through the work week without her. She challenges you & makes work more enjoyable!
· “Get your money right” Friend - This chick has her financial portfolio tight. She isn’t trying to keep up w/ the Jones’, ain’t worried about designer things and isn’t trying to impress. She is focused on building wealth and is encouraging you to do the same.
· “Won’t let you give up” Friend - It doesn’t matter how bad it looks, this friend can make you see the positive side. She will not let you give up on life no matter how crazy it looks. She is an encourager and you often connect with her for your boost!
· “Big Sister / Mama” Friend - This is the friend that is a little older than you. She has traveled your shoes as a woman, a wife, a mother etc. This friend gives you practical guidance and isn’t afraid to share w/ you where she may have messed up in the past.
· “Little sister” Friend – You love this girl. She is much younger than you and looks to you for mentoring. You love teaching her the things you know and her ‘youthfulness’ keeps you lively!
· BONUS: This is important…ladies…all of us need a “I’m not trying to hit on you” Male friend! This friend will remind you that you are sexy, intelligent and have much to offer anyone that you deal with. He checks you when your behavior would scare away a man or irritate your husband. This friend is your brother from another mother and you trust him to hold you accountable!
Now you may not have 16 different girlfriends to fill these spots in your life! One girlfriend may play 2 or 3 different roles in your life at different times. I am so blessed because my girlfriend guide was born out of the relationships I have with my girlfriends…and so a special shout-out to all of you! You make me better!
